Alte Raben lernen keine neuen Tricks mehr? Von wegen! Corvus Corax legen mit „Skál“ ein mutiges und innovatives Album vor, das in mancherlei Hinsicht neue Wege geht – ohne seine Wurzeln zu verleugnen. Wie würde das Mittelalter sich heute anhören, wie würde es singen, feiern, leben und lachen? Erstmals überführt Corvus Corax Geschichten und Schwänke aus alter Zeit in die heutige Sprache – und erschafft so einerseits gemeinsam mit Gastsängerin Maxi Kerber (u.a. „Der Fluch des Drachen“) sanfte Balladen wie „Die Rose“ oder erotische Schelmenstücke wie „Eine Jungfrau“ (unterstützt von Cesair an Lyra und Nyckelharpa) und nimmt andererseits mit auf rauschende Feste („Sauf noch ein“, „Hol Bier herbei“). Doch der klassische, unverwechselbare Klang, für den Corvus Corax steht, kommt nicht zu kurz – mächtig dröhnen die Trommeln und klagen die Dudelsäcke bei Stücken wie „Pfeifsack“.
Hiermit setzt die Band ein Denkmal für das Instrument, das ihre Musik von Anfang an ausgemacht hat. Auch die sagenhafte Mystik darf bei den Königen der Spielleute nicht fehlen: Mit altnordischen Strophen der Edda begeben sich die Raben gemeinsam mit Gastsängerin Arndis Halla (u.a. Apassionata) für Odin auf den Flug („Hugin und Munin“) und die Band huldigt der großen Weltenesche „Yggdrasill“. „Ofermod“ zieht mit den Wikingern
auf das Schlachtfeld.
Und auch die größte mittelalterliche Liederhandschriftsammlung darf natürlich nicht fehlen.
Mit „Her Wirt“ wird den Carmina Burana wieder einmal Klang und Stimme verliehen. Alles in allem: Mystische Klänge und die Feier des Lebens vereint unter einem Dach. In schnellem, mitreißendem Rhythmus bündeln Corvus Corax all ihre Kraft und Erfahrung, ihren Stil und ihre Spielfreude für diese Platte, ebenso wie im titelgebenden Instrumentalstück – in diesem Sinne:

Ancient ravens no longer learn new tricks? Not at all! Corvus Corax presents with „SKÁL“ a courageous and innovative album that in many ways breaks new ground – without denying its
roots. How would the Middle Ages sound today, how would it sing, celebrate, live and laugh?
For the first time Corvus Corax translates stories and old-fashioned infatuation into today’s language – creating on the one hand together with guest singer Maxi Kerber (e.g. „The Curse
of the Dragon“) soft ballads such as „Die Rose“ (english: the rose) or erotic roguish songs like „Eine Jungfrau“ (english: a virgin) (supported from Cesair to Lyra and Nyckelharpa), and on the other hand, it takes part in a festive party („Sauf noch ein“ (english: drink another one), „Hol Bier herbei“ (english: bring beer)). But the classic, unmistakable sound, which Corvus Corax stands for, is not too short – powerful roar the drums and complain the bagpipes in pieces such as „Pfeifsack“ (english: whistle bag).
Hereby the band builds a monument to the instrument that made their music from the beginning. Even the legendary mysticism may not be missing in an album of the kings of the minstrels:
With Old Norse verses of the Edda the ravens go together with guest singer Arndis Halla (e.g. „Apassionata“) for Odin on the flight („Hugin and Munin“) and the band pays homage to the
great world ash „Yggdrasill“. „Ofermod“ moves with the Vikings on the battlefield.
And of course, the largest collection of medieval song manuscripts should not be missing also. With „Her Wirt“ the Carmina Burana is once again given a sound and a voice. All at once:
